I like the variety of terrain. the fact that it is minutes from my home allows me more opportunities to hike. I usually hike early morning so the odds of seeing wild life are much greater. This season I've come across Three different side winders (rattlesnakes) One I almost stepped on, but he let me know I was getting to close that rattle will bring you back from deep thought which is another reason I hike. It's great way to air your brain. Happy hiking see you on the trail

I have ridden my bicycle through the park as well as many grunts up the trails to the tops. Either mountain is a good view of Sunrise or Sunset. Although North Mountain is a little better for Sunrise and Sunsets as the slopes off the top are dramatic so for pictures you get to see more terrain further away and down low. Shaw Butte is more rounded so the near ground interferes with the imagery down below. Phoenix often has "GA! GA!" images during "The Golden Hours".

I used to come here to meet with my dog trainer for lessons. The park is very nice and if you get there early you'll see the staff cleaning and raking the ramadas and common areas. Very good quality park.

This is an okay urban hike. I can't say it's one of my favorites. The trails are oddly numbered and were confusing to navigate. I was not sure where to turn for where. Trail 100. Trail 305...etc etc. Also, this place does get busy as it's centered in Phoenix. Too many people in the day... The trail also is very rocky- flat surfaced rocks which makes going downhill hard. If I do come here, it's at evening through the group night hikes. This way, it's cooler and then you get to beat the crowd.

It was a great experience. Clean park with lot's of friendly hikers. Didn't make it to the top on my first try but I will be back to redeem myself!!
